(Applications have closed for the Breakout Novelist Retreat to be held on Feb 15-23, 2014. The scholarship recipients have been announced at http://www.novelwritingretreatsaustralia.com/2013/12/breakout-novelist-retreat-2014.html.)
Novel Writing Retreats Australia has up to six scholarship places available for a 9 day/8 night Breakout Novelist Retreat in 2014.
The Breakout Novelist Retreat takes place on Feb 15-23, 2014 at the retreat property located in Taroona, Tasmania, with retreat facilitator Steve Rossiter and Sunday Times bestselling novelist Ben Kane.
Applications are open to novel writers living in Australia. Published and unpublished writers are equally welcome to apply. The idea is to stand out from other novelists, so if you're a published novelist don't just submit a proposal for the next novel like your previous ones. Unpublished writers may have an advantage in this sense, since their ideas may be fresher than someone used to writing in a particular way.
Applications close at midnight on November 30, 2013. There is no application fee.
Successful applicants will be notified on December 5, 2013.
Each scholarship includes the normal benefits of a paid retreat - accommodation (in your own room), food, lessons, consultations and discussions - but with more emphasis on making your novel-in-progress a breakout success. Travel to and from the retreat property is the responsibility of each writer.
To apply, provide:
1) The concept for your novel-in-progress:
A title, a tagline (15 words or less) and a back-cover-style synopsis (100 words or less)
2) A 1-3 page outline of your novel-in-progress
3) The first 2500-3000 words of your novel manuscript
4) A brief author background statement:
A statement of 300-500 words addressing your professionalism, your approach to being a novelist and your personal background to the extent that it is relevant to your novel writing.
Email your application to email@example.com as an attached document (.doc or .docx), with each of the four steps starting on a new page.
The content of your application will not be shared online. If you are shortlisted, you will have the option of making your title, tagline, back-cover-style synopsis and an excerpt of about 75-100 words from your first 2500-3000 words available to be shared on this site (www.novelwritingretreatsaustralia.com) and linked to on social media sites to help you and your work get discovered by readers, literary agents and publishers.
